Over 100 people attended the EIC Conference Cycle on the 19th of June and this time the presentation was given by Dr. José Sánchez de Toledo, head of the Vall d’Hebron Barcelona Hospital’s Paediatric Haematology-Oncology Service. Named the 2012 Catalan of the Year, Sánchez de Toledo spoke to the students, relatives and guests about cancer, above all child cancer, from different points of view: the illness itself and its cures and how it has become possible to detect, treat and cure this illness thanks to technological advances. The speaker carried out this analysis through a slide tour of paintings, drawings and works of art that showed the advances, situations or feelings in varying epochs up to our times. In short, a technical analysis from an artistic perspective. Sánchez de Toledo also spoke about the ill child’s environment, his/her family and how, little by little, the health system has undertaken everything, many times through patronage.
