The ESO 3 and 4 have been to Bellmunt to delve into Mines of lead, and see what life was like in a colony almost a hundred years ago as an activity included on the 5th Science Week of the EIC. On Wednesday 16 November the 3rd and 4th ESO got way towards Bellmunt to visit the site of galena and lead larger area, and also visit the Cooperative Winery of Falset.
Bellmunt mines were opened in 1920 and over 50 years were one focus of life and business that led to the establishment of the colony of which there are still some significant traces. Through the history and practice of lowering the mines we have known the harshness of this job and complexity of the extraction of minerals; now we know the differences between some of the most abundant minerals in the area and we took the journey to visit the cellar of Falset knowing the importance of the vine to the region and moments that have happened with difficulty due to phylloxera. Overall, a very interesting visit has enabled us to share Social Sciences, Geography, Geology, Mathematics, Botany, Chemistry, Technology, Languages and Art.
We are ready for the next trip!
